GDDIF 2012 is the 5th annual GDDIF summit on drug discovery & development held in Budapest, Hungary on March 7-8. The two day gathering is dedicated to scientific insight, technology Innovation and strategy in drug discovery & development. Syncom CEO Ton Vries will attend the summit and will be available to meet with prospective clients at GDDIF 2012.
Syncom will participate at the Lab Career Event Noord. The Lab Career Event Noord will be the first regional lab career event for life science students and will be hosted by the Institute of Life Sciences & Technology at the Hanzehogeschool, 27 March 2012 in Groningen. Students with a strong interest in organic chemistry and/or analytical chemistry are kindly invited to meet the Syncom staff during the event to learn more about Syncom and potential job opportunities.
Informex is the annual custom chemical manufacturing trade convention in the US, organized by the Synthetic Organic Chemical Manufacturers Association (SOCMA). Informex 2012 will be hosted in New Orleans, February 14 – 17. Both Syncom CEO Ton Vries and Syncom COO Robert Hof will be available to meet with prospective clients at Informex 2012.
Syncom is pleased to announce that the “Molecule of the year Award” 2011 has been awarded to Syncom's employees Dr Maarten Ijsselstijn and Dr Fred Leusink. The “Molecule of the year Award” is awarded each year by Syncom to a project involving highly complex and innovative chemistry. The 2011 award was presented to Dr Ijsselstijn and Dr Leusink in recognition for a 55 steps (!) custom synthesis project towards a novel complex chiral molecule which was successfully executed by Dr Ijsselstijn, Dr Leusink and coworkers.
Our contribution to the open source research project to develop a practical and economically viable synthesis of Praziquantel, a drug for the treatment of schistosomiasis, caught national and international attention. In response to this an interview with our senior scientist Jean Paul Seerden was published in the Dutch magazines Medicines volume 3, issue 6, December 2011 and C2W 20, 26 November 2011. Please note that both articles are in Dutch.
During the 19th International Solvent and Extraction Conference (ISEC 2011) held in Santiago Chile a study of affinity extractants for the selective recovery of IgG from proteins was presented. The affinity materials were custom synthesized by Syncom during the course of the European project ‘Advanced Interactive Materials by Design’ (AIMs) in collaboration with 24 other companies and universities. The common goal was to develop and synthesize supports that can be functionalised with affinity ligands in order to purify targeted biomolecules. The affinity ligands can be used in several different extraction systems, e.g. ATPS, Reactive Extraction Systems, Micellar Extraction Systems and in Super Critical Extraction Systems.
Syncom can deliver several affinity materials from stock and offers design and custom synthesis of novel affinity materials as a service.
Please read the paper and poster below for more information:
Paper: ISEC 2011, Chapter 6: Affinity extractants for the selective recovery of IgG from proteins

Praziquantel is a racemic drug for the treatment of schistosomiasis, a “neglected” tropical disease that infects more than 200 million people. The (R)-enantiomer is the active isomer, whereas the inactive (S)-enantiomer causes side effects and has an extremely bitter taste. In only one week time Syncom developed a chiral HPLC method and discovered a practical and economically viable chiral resolution of a praziquantel intermediate. The results were published with the University of Sydney, Australia and UNICEF/UNDP/World Bank/WHO Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases (TDR), Switzerland in PLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases 2011, 5(9), e1260.
This example again highlights the capabilities of Syncom in the field of chiral technology and resolutions.
Syncom has launched a new website that improves the look and feel of the Syncom corporate identity. Also the website provides more intuitive navigation with which to scroll through the breadth of Syncom's services.
“We are proud to launch our new website and hope the website provides our clients with exactly the right information when searching for high quality custom synthesis CROs” says Syncom COO Robert Hof, Ph.D. “We are very happy with the design of our website and encourage our clients to provide us with feedback.”
Syncom announced today that it has been selected by Pfizer as the winner of the 2nd Route Design Innovation Award, which recognizes excellence and creativity in chemical process research and development. Syncom’s proposal has been judged the most innovative received in the challenge. Pfizer will present the award to Syncom during the 2011 ChemOutsourcing Conference to be held in Long Branch, NJ September 12 -15.
