Chiral Technology Highlight

Praziquantel is a racemic drug for the treatment of schistosomiasis, a “neglected” tropical disease that infects more than 200 million people. The (R)-enantiomer is the active isomer, whereas the inactive (S)-enantiomer causes side effects and has an extremely bitter taste. In only one week time Syncom developed a chiral HPLC method and discovered a practical and economically viable chiral resolution of a praziquantel intermediate. The results were published with the University of Sydney, Australia and UNICEF/UNDP/World Bank/WHO Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases (TDR), Switzerland in PLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases 2011, 5(9), e1260.

This example again highlights the capabilities of Syncom in the field of chiral technology and resolutions.
